Atlanta, GA (April 11, 2016) A global leader of social justice and civil rights, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity,Incorporated has issued a clarion call to citizens of the United States to stand up, take our place and overwhelmingly exercise our right to vote! Our vote is the most powerful tool of citizenship that we have to help effectively shape and direct the governance of our nation progressively forward. History continues to show astounding numbers of citizens around the nation that will not stand on the privilege of their voting rights. Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated has tirelessly been on the forefront of helping to enlist new voters around the country through active voter registration drives and will remain committed to that process. Antonio F. Knox, Sr., 40th Grand Basileus stated, "Today I am asking each of you to please make it a priority to join the ranks of citizens that practice this constitutional and civil liberty and cast your ballots in landslide numbers, forcing the political powers to pay attention and strategically act to the benefit of our communities. Our collective vote is critical."
The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was implemented to give citizens protection against hindrance at the federal, state and local government levels. Our country is in peril and disarray on so many levels. The leaders of this nation are our elected officials and with our collective voice, our votes, we can effectively force their attention to the issues that overwhelmingly confront us. November 2016 will change the face and direction of our nation like never before and the power of our vote can directly help to influence that change. It is absolutely necessary that we collectively exercise and leverage each vote cast according to our political consciousness and beliefs. "Omega Psi Phi is willing to join forces with all organizations and every citizen that believes in equality and total justice as we link arms progressively forward."
Omega is asking for everyone to extend the hands of assistance and provide rides to your neighbors and elderly citizens that may not have the transportation available to them to get to the polls. Stand up for every African American male that won't have the opportunity to vote because of the alarming numbers of murders, unjust incarcerations and other life changing situations that have violently and unfairly affected our communities. "Rise up and lift the powers of your voices through your vote!"
Since its humble beginnings on the Howard University campus, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity continues to be on the front line, leveraging its power, influence and more than 100 years of commitment to the uplift of our people and our communities.
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was founded on November 17, 1911, at Howard University in Washington, D.C., and is the first international fraternal organization to be founded on the campus of a historically black college.
