Brother Dr. James A. Elam
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)

Whereas, Almighty God, the Supreme Basileus of the Universe has called Brother Dr. James A. Elam from a time temporal to life eternal;

And whereas, Brother Elam was a corporate and philanthropic titan whose contributions and selfless service to Omega was immeasurable. Brother Elam was a church Elder at College Hill Presbyterian Church in Dayton, OH, where he spent considerable time working with the Adult Sunday school and was chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee. He also traveled to Ghana, West Africa as an emissary from his church and worked, taught and held service with the Ghanaians. He traveled to Ghana annually and worked as a medical laboratory consultant for the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Ghana and the government of Ghana;

And whereas, Brother Elam graduated as class president with his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Central State University in 1952, and did post graduate work at Miami University in Oxford, OH; Ohio State University in Columbus, OH; the University of Dayton, Dayton, OH; Wright State University, Dayton, OH; and the Kettering Engineering Institute;

And whereas, Brother Elam was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humanities from Rust College, April 30, 2000;

And whereas, in 1958, Brother Elam started Belmonte Park Laboratories, an environmental testing company in Dayton, OH. His company has provided free medical services to the poor and to cancer patients;

And whereas, Brother Elam was initiated into Eta Gamma Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, at Central State University on March 17, 1952 and was an active member of Mu Chi Chapter in Dayton, OH at the time of his transition;

And whereas, for 63 years, Brother Elam proudly and boldly embodied and upheld the Cardinal Principles of Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift and through his incredible years of service, Brother Elam won nearly every award, at every level of the Fraternity. Under his leadership, the Fraternity established its own credit union. In 1995, the 800-seat auditorium inside the Fraternity’s headquarters in Decatur, GA was named in honor of Brother Elam. Brother Elam also served as a stand-in for one of the Founders during the Centennial Conclave observed in 2011.

And whereas, while heaven rejoices his arrival, the Brotherhood of Omega collectively sheds a bittersweet tear in having Brother Elam leave our beloved fold; we shall always cherish his memory and steadfast service to the Fraternity. The brilliance of a star has diminished and a mighty tree has fallen;

Be it therefore resolved that on behalf of the 40th Grand Basileus, Antonio F. Knox, Sr., the Supreme Council and the Brothers of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, we hereby commend the soul of our deceased Brother, Dr. James A. Elam, to Almighty God for eternal keeping and we will pray for the safekeeping and comfort of his bereaved family.
