Bro. Al Gardner Appointed as Deputy Mayor of Denver

It is with great pride that we celebrate Bro. Al Gardner (ΧΦ ’11 / ΛΔΔ) on his appointment as Deputy Mayor of Denver by Mayor Mike Johnston. In this role, Gardner will continue serving as executive director of General Services while stepping into the Mayor’s duties whenever necessary during his one-year term.

Mayor Johnston expressed full confidence in Gardner’s leadership, stating, “I trust Al to bring his commitment, leadership and passion to serve the residents of Denver. I am grateful he has accepted this role and I look forward to working together on delivering on our promise to make Denver a vibrant, safe and affordable city for all.”

Bro. Gardner’s distinguished career spans nearly 30 years, with accomplishments in engineering, technology, and community leadership. Notably, he led a Denver-based startup to a successful IPO in 2022 and was recently appointed to Colorado’s Board of Health by Governor Jared Polis. His extensive service includes roles on the Denver African American Commission, Denver Civil Service Commission Board, and advisory boards for the Denver Police and Sheriff’s Departments.

Beyond his professional achievements, Gardner is a proud advocate for technology and education, serving as a Board Member of the Colorado Technology Association and teaching as an adjunct instructor at the University of Denver. His contributions have earned him accolades such as the Denver Business Journal’s C-Suite Award and recognition in the PBS documentary series Road Trip Nation: Leaders.
