Happy Founders Day to the Men of Omega Psi Phi

November 17th — The Night Omega Was Born

On Friday evening, November 17, 1911, three Howard University students—Bro. Oscar J. Cooper, Bro. Frank Coleman, and Bro. Edgar A. Love—gathered once again with Professor Ernest E. Just to finalize the vision that would transform generations.

At that historic meeting:

  • The name Omega Psi Phi was chosen.
  • The motto was agreed upon.
  • The Cardinal Principles were established.
  • The design for the Pin and Escutcheon was approved.

And on that sacred night, November 17, 1911, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. came into existence—a brotherhood built upon the eternal pillars of:

• Manhood
• Scholarship
• Perseverance
• Uplift

The immortal motto, “Friendship is Essential to the Soul,” symbolized by the Greek letters ΩΨΦ, has guided Omega men for 114 years and continues to ignite purpose, service, and excellence across the globe.

Today, we honor the founders, the legacy, and every Brother who carries the Lamp forward.

Happy 114th Founders’ Day to the Mighty Men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.!
