Grand Basileus Previews Historic 85th Grand Conclave as Omega Psi Phi Returns to Cincinnati
Grand Basileus Ricky Lewis recently appeared on Local 12/WKRC-TV Cincinnati to preview Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.’s historic 85th Grand Conclave and the organization’s return to the Queen City.
The Cincy Region is preparing to welcome the brothers, families and guests of Omega Psi Phi from July 30 through August 3 for what Grand Basileus Lewis described as the highest-registered Grand Conclave in the fraternity’s history. An estimated 30,000 visitors, including more than 10,000 registered members and over 20,000 family members and friends, are expected to fill Cincinnati with purple and gold.
Founded at Howard University in 1911, Omega Psi Phi was the first international fraternal organization established on the campus of a historically Black college. For more than a century, its members have advanced the Cardinal Principles of Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift through leadership, education, service and cultural achievement.
Cincinnati also holds a special place in Grand Conclave history. When the city hosted the gathering in 1953, it became the site of the first Talent Hunt presented at a Grand Conclave. More than 70 years later, the brothers of Omega are returning for #CincyClave26, continuing a historic relationship between the fraternity and the city.
During the Local 12 interview, Grand Basileus Lewis emphasized that the Grand Conclave is about more than conducting fraternity business. It is a time for fellowship, community service and investment in the next generation. Programming will include STEM activities, a youth conference, scholarships, Talent Hunt and a step show, along with opportunities for members and families to engage with the local community.
The celebration officially begins with the Cincinnati Reds, but the Conclave experience will extend throughout the region. Between meetings, official events and fellowship, visitors are encouraged to explore Black-owned businesses, Black history and culture, family attractions, sports, entertainment and destinations on both sides of the Ohio River.
The gathering is also expected to deliver a significant economic benefit to the region. Local tourism leaders anticipate millions of dollars in spending at hotels, restaurants, retailers, transportation providers and other businesses. After nearly two years of planning, Cincinnati is prepared to host one of the largest conventions held at its newly renovated convention center.
As thousands of members and guests arrive, the Queen City is ready to become “OmegaNati.” The 85th Grand Conclave will celebrate brotherhood, history and cultural achievement while creating lasting educational, community and economic impact throughout the Cincy Region.
