Kweisi Mfume Wins Reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives

Baltimore, MD—In a resounding victory, Democratic Congressman Kweisi Mfume has been reelected to represent Maryland’s 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Mfume defeated Republican challenger Scott Collier in the heavily Democratic district, which includes much of Baltimore, Maryland’s largest city. The Associated Press declared Mfume the winner at 9:28 p.m. EST on election night.

Brother Kweisi Mfume’s reelection continues his legacy of public service spanning decades. First elected to Congress in 1987, Mfume served until 1996, leaving to lead the NAACP for nearly a decade. Since reclaiming his congressional seat in 2020, he has been a steadfast advocate for civil rights, economic empowerment, and justice reform.

Reflecting on his reelection, Congressman Mfume stated:
“I am humbled and honored to once again have the trust of the people of Maryland’s 7th District. Public service is not just my career—it is my calling. Together, we have faced unprecedented challenges, from a global pandemic to political unrest, and I remain committed to fighting for the progress and prosperity our communities deserve.”

Mfume’s track record includes championing landmark legislation such as the Americans with Disabilities Act, bolstering civil rights protections for workers abroad, and introducing measures to address gun violence and strengthen witness protection programs. His work in Congress has been shaped by his deep understanding of Baltimore’s unique challenges and his unwavering commitment to addressing systemic inequalities.

In addition to his congressional duties, Mfume has a distinguished history of leadership and advocacy. From his tenure as President and CEO of the NAACP to his academic contributions as a professor and alumnus at Morgan State University, Mfume’s dedication to empowering underserved communities has been unwavering.

As Mfume begins his next term, he plans to prioritize combating gun violence, protecting reproductive rights, and addressing racial and economic disparities. He remains steadfast in his belief that democracy itself is on the ballot and has called for unity and action in the face of division.

Maryland’s 7th District continues to be represented by a leader whose life story—from humble beginnings in Baltimore to the halls of Congress—embodies resilience and commitment to public service.
