It is with profound sadness that I convey the news of the passing of our esteemed 30th Grand Basileus, Brother Dr. Edward J. Braynon Jr. He peacefully entered Omega Chapter today, February 25, 2024, at the age of 96. His departure leaves a void in our hearts, yet his legacy will forever illuminate our path.
Brother Grand Dr. Edward J. Braynon Jr. was not merely a leader within our fraternity; he embodied the very essence of Omega Psi Phi. His guidance, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to our principles have enriched the lives of countless brothers. His influence will continue to resonate within our brotherhood for generations to come.
The family of Brother Grand Dr. Edward J. Braynon Jr. is in the process of arranging his homegoing service, which will be conducted by the Sigma Alpha Chapter in Miami, Florida, where he served as an emeritus member. Further details regarding the service will be communicated as soon as they are finalized.
As we mourn the loss of a great leader and friend, let us find solace in the cherished memories we hold of Brother Braynon. Let us honor his legacy by continuing to uphold the commitments to mankind and traditions of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity he held dear.

As we prepare to bid our dear departed Brother Grand Dr. Edward J. Braynon Jr. a final farewell, I am providing you with the various details regarding his service and opportunities to pay your respects.
On Wednesday, March 6, 2024: From 4:00pm – 8:00pm, Brother Grand Braynon will lie in state at Levitt & Son Funeral Home Chapel, offering a public opportunity for reflection and remembrance, located at 4346 Flat Shoals Parkway, Decatur GA, 30034.
On Friday, March 8, 2024, at 7:00pm, The Sigma Alpha Chapter will conduct the Omega Memorial Service with assistant from the International Headquarters. The coordination will be led by Brother Derrick V. Love, Immediate Past Basileus of Sigma Alpha Chapter and behalf of the International Protocol Committee Brother Joseph T. Williams Former 7th District Representative and Vice Chair of the International Membership Committee.
The Memorial Service will be live streamed by the International Headquarters on the Fraternity’s official YouTube channel. Please subscribe now Omega’s YouTube Channel to be alerted when the viewing on your various devices when the programming begin. Official Omega Attire shall be worn by all Omega Men taking part in the memorial service.
Brothers attending the Memorial Service will assemble at 5:30 pm the holding area is in front of the Florida Memorial University Gymnasium. Instructions to be provided by Brother Derrick V. Love and Brother Joseph T. Williams on the proceedings. The procession will start promptly at 6:45 pm and be performed in accordance with our Ritual.
After the Memorial Service, a repast gathering will be hosted by the Sigma Alpha Chapter and the International Headquarters at the Omega Activity Center (15600 NW 42nd Ave Opa Locka, FL 33054). The Omega Activity Center is located across from the Gymnasium.
On Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 10:00 am the Homegoing Celebration for Brother Grand Dr. Edward J. Braynon will be held at St. Paul AME Church (1866 NW 51st Terrace, Miami Florida 33142). Parking is limited on the church property, as the church is located in the neighborhood of a historically black working-class area. The Range Funeral Home (5727 N.W. 17th Avenue, Miami Florida, 33142) will officiate the homegoing celebration in Miami.
Let us honor the memory of our esteemed Brother Grand Dr. Edward J. Braynon Jr. with dignity, reverence, and unity. Your presence and participation during these solemn occasions are deeply appreciated.
